For the first time in history, Brazil is set to export more than 1% of its domestic production of chicken eggs in 2022. Ricardo Santin, President of the ABPA (Brazilian Association of Animal Protein), reported in an interview with AveLive, which was broadcast live on the Agroceres Multimix YouTube channel.

“We are going to cross the threshold and, for the first time, export more than 1% of domestic output,” stressed ABPA’s president. “It is worth mentioning that we exported 25% of Brazilian pork and roughly 32% of all poultry meat,” said him.

According to trade balance information released by the Brazilian Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade, and Services, Brazil exported 7.15 thousand tonnes of eggs year-to-date, including data until August 14. In 2021, the total volume of Brazilian eggs exported neared 18,500 tonnes.

Data from the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) indicate that – in 2021 – Brazil produced 3.98 billion dozen eggs. In the first half of 2022, production has already reached 1.96 billion dozen.

Market outlook

During the talk, Ricardo Santin also assessed the prospects for the poultry and swine markets. According to ABPA projections, Brazilian chicken meat production could increase by up to 1% this year compared to 2021, reaching 14.5 million tonnes in 2022.

The sector’s exports should reach 4.9 million tonnes, 6% more than last year. In 2023, export should be 6% higher, catching up to 5.2 million tonnes, while production is expected to grow by 5%, reaching 15 million tonnes.

According to ABPA predictions, the pork market will rise by up to 5% in 2022, reaching 4.95 million tonnes. As a result, exports are predicted to reach 1.1 million tonnes, 3% less than in 2022, but still the second-best mark in Brazilian swine farming history.

In 2023, pork production is expected to reach up to 5.1 million tonnes, increasing to 3%. For exports, expectations are for a new increase, of up to 9%, with volumes reaching 1.2 million tonnes.
