According to the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruits and Derivatives (Abrafrutas), Brazil exported more than $1 billion in fruits in a single year for the first time in 2021. Overall, shipments increased by 18% to 1.2 million tons, and sales increased by 20% to US$ 1.06 billion, compared to the previous year.

According to the organization, the appreciation of the dollar and the euro against the real gave impetus to shipments in the segment. Furthermore, according to Abrafrutas, consumers’ search for healthier foods in an attempt to enhance their immunity has contributed to increased demand for fruit in both domestic and international markets.

Mango led Brazilian fruit exports in 2021. Altogether, shipments totaled 272,500 tons, an increase of 12% compared to 2020.
