Santos Brasil received in July the first batch of equipment purchased within the context of a new investment cycle dedicated to its box terminal Tecon Vila do Conde in the city of Barcarena (96 km from Belém), Pará.

Ten Volkswagen Constellation 25,480 trucks and Paletrans semi-trailers, boasting a hefty capacity of 65 tonnes, have now arrived at the terminal. These vehicles will be employed for container transportation. Two empty container forklifts, which can stack up to seven containers, have also been acquired. These new trucks can be outfitted with lowered planks to form specialized arrangements for project cargo operations.

By the end of the year, the terminal’s equipment will include a Mobile Harbor Crane (MHC), three cutting-edge reach stackers (long-range telescopic retractable forklifts) capable of stacking containers six-high, and three warehouse forklifts (one with a 7-ton capacity and two with a 4.5-ton capacity).

This collection of equipment represents a significant R$ 65 million investment, supplementing the existing terminal fleet and increasing capacity and productivity. These items, equipped with cutting-edge technology, improve operational performance and accentuate environmental efficiency by consuming less fuel.

In total, Santos Brasil is set to channel approximately BRL 120 million into expansion initiatives and the acquisition of new equipment. The overarching objective is to bolster Tecon Vila do Conde’s capacity by nearly 40%, elevating its throughput from 217 thousand TEUs/year to 300 thousand TEUs/year by 2025.

According to Roberto Teller, Director of Port Operations at Santos Brasil, Tecon Vila do Conde is entering a new phase. “We’ve improved gate operations, implemented a new operational system, and completed construction projects that have increased the terminal’s area by 20 square meters, totaling 108 thousand square meters, in addition to the equipment that has already been procured and is now arriving at the terminal,” he remarks. Teller notes that the terminal will be suitably equipped to accommodate the North region’s escalating demand for containerized cargo transportation, including project cargo, at the close of this investment cycle.

Tecon Vila do Conde is part of a river terminal complex for containers and project cargo, harboring considerable growth potential driven by exports in agribusiness and mining, as well as imports of equipment and machinery. Its strategic positioning in the Amazon River delta, within the Arco Norte region, capitalizes on extensive waterway networks and proximity to major international maritime routes spanning all continents.
