The ocean tugboat Thor Frigg has returned to Paranagua. Although this is the vessel’s second visit to the port of Paraná in March, each visit sparks interest on the pier. In addition to being larger and of a different design than the support vessels operating in the terminal, this vessel is outfitted with cutting-edge technology to support offshore activities.

The tug arrived at Paranagua’s berth 205 mast Thursday morning, March 23. It undocked and then returned to Santa Catarina waters on Friday afternoon, the 24, to aid the seismic vessel Ramform Tethys, used for scientific research and data collection.

The Norwegian company PGS owns both the Thor Frigg and the Ramform Tethys. This geophysical company collects and distributes offshore seismic data to customers. With representation in Brazil, the company is hired by companies interested in oil exploration in the pre-salt layer in the country’s southern region.

In Paranaguá, the vessel underwent a crew change, was loaded with non-food supplies (specific parts for the group’s ships, fuel) and food (ranch) to supply the vessels, had its health certificate renewed,  and updated compliance by the Port Authority.

Built by Turkish company Besiktas Shipyard, the support vessel acts as a shuttle during crew changes and resupplies vessels during long projects such as the one involving the Ramform vessel.

According to the company, these vessels “are specially designed and built to meet the operational requirements of the PGS. Built in 2015, Thor Frigg is 57.6 meters long and 14.5 meters wide. Counting the foreign and Brazilian crew, there were about 20 men on board during the ships’ passage through Paranagua.
