The head of the Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie, announced that a record volume of cargo passed through the canal in October, reaching a historic milestone of 112.1 million tons. The data show that the route received 1,847 ships, an increase of 14% compared to the 1,620 ships received in the same month last year. In tonnage, the increase was 11.4% over the 100.6 million tons of October 2020.

Rabie highlighted a significant sales growth of 12.4% at the Suez Canal in October. The canal increased its monthly revenues from US$490.2 million in 2020 to US$551.1 million in 2021.

He explained that the growth in the navigation rate in the channel is the result of a series of policies that were adopted to deal with the most varied types of vessels that transit the channel, especially liquefied natural gas ships. According to Rabie, 84 gas tankers passed through the channel in October, compared to 46 gas tankers in the same month in 2020. These numbers represent an increase of 82.6% in the number of gas tankers. There was also an 87.5% increase in the volume of cargo transported by them.

The number of ships and in their loads grew significantly in 2021. From January to October, the number of vessels reached 17,020 compared to 15,640 in the same period last year, an increase of 8.8%. The cargo transported by the road module was 1.050 billion tons, whereas from January to October 2020 it was 968.6 million tons.

Despite the challenges faced by the world this year, the Suez Canal managed to earn US$ 5.2 billion in the first ten months of this year, an increase of 12.4% compared to the same period last year, which was US$ 4, 6 billion.
