Week 202335

On Friday (25), four areas of the Port of Rio de Janeiro saw the kickstart of the first detonation that marked the rock removal process that will increase the depth of these port sections. This effort is the product of a public-private collaboration that used rock blasting techniques using explosive expanders to dredge specific areas.

The drilling that allowed the explosive emulsions to be placed commenced on August 15th. It’s worth emphasizing that all necessary licenses and permits from the authorities were secured beforehand, assuring complete compliance with safety and sustainability guidelines.

The central goal of the rock blasting operation is to enhance the navigation and berthing capacity of larger vessels in the Rio de Janeiro port, simultaneously providing greater safety during vessel maneuvers in the area.

The project will also include regular water quality monitoring, measures to protect the marine environment, and the preservation of nearby structures and buildings, all with minimal impact on local navigation.

For the next year, there’s a planned supplementary dredging of the entire Gamboa quay, already approved in the budget with funds from the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC).
