The world’s largest coffee producer, Brazil, exported 2.52m 60kg bags to the Asian continent in the first four months of 2019, up 29.9% compared to the same period last year, according to data from Cecafé, the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council. The volume shipped generated US$342.3m in revenues in the period.

The European continent remained the top destination of Brazilian coffee considering January – April 2019, with 52.9% of exported volume. The continent imported 6.93m bags of coffee, equivalent to US$883.8m in export revenues. North America snatched the second spot, importing 21.6% of Brazil’s coffee exports, at 2.83m bags, earning Brazil US$371.9m in export revenues.

Asia imported 19.3% of the volume shipped in the same period, marking the destination the third largest. Among all the Asian countries, Japan’s import volume was highest between January and April, up 37.04% year-on-year.

Moreover, the South American giant registered a 1.15% growth in soluble coffee exports in the first four months of 2019, at 1.159m bags, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Soluble Coffee Industry (Abics). Brazil generated US$169.4m in income from this type of coffee, the organ reported. However, the growth falls short of the 5% that is expected over 12 months, partly due to low coffee prices in both domestic and international markets.

The following DataLiner graph shows Brazil’s month-by-month coffee exports analysis from 2006 to March 2019:

Brazil’s National Agricultural Supply Company, Conab, published the second report that discloses the country’s new coffee production estimate for the 2019/20 crop year, at 50.92m 60kg bags, including Arabica and Conilon (Robusta) coffee, down 17.4% year-on-year. The previous report in January projected between 50.48m and 54.48m bags.
