With 33.610 million tonnes of cargo throughput, the Port of Itaqui grew 8% from 2021 and 4% over what had been planned by EMAP – the Maranhão state public port authority. Solid bulk commodities were the year’s highlight, corresponding to 23 million tonnes, an increase of 19% compared to last year and 11% above EMAP’s forecasts.

Soybeans and corn were the most handled products, registering the highest annual movement rates in the public port of Maranhão, with 11.2 million tonnes and 6.6 million tonnes, respectively. Exports of pulp produced by Suzano’s factory in Maranhão also surpassed the historical mark, with 1.705 million tonnes.

The last month of the year was the best in the Port of Itaqui, with a 2.564 million tonnes throughput, 57.5% higher than what had been planned for the month, and 47% above the same period in 2021, a result driven mainly by corn exports (1.075 million tonnes).
