On Wednesday (20th), Luiz Fernando Garcia, head of Portos do Paraná, participated in the inauguration of TCP’s (Paranaguá Container Terminal) new power substation. The GIS F35-4 model, manufactured by General Electric (GE), is designed to supply power to the terminal.

According to Garcia, “Currently, the Port of Paranaguá is the global corridor for the export of frozen chicken meat, and the substation will ensure the right temperature of these refrigerated containers. Paraná increasingly shows how prepared it is to meet the growing market demand.”

The substation will meet the demand for the 1,554 new power plugs in the reefer area (with temperature control) and RTG-type cranes recently electrified in railway operations.

Representatives from CET Brasil, the company responsible for the project’s execution, and members of TCP’s board and management also attended the event.

Substation Structure

With a total area of 446 square meters, the substation is housed in a two-story building located within the terminal. The system features a 25 kVA power transformer with an input voltage of 138 kV and an output of 13.8 kV for distribution to other substations on-site.

According to TCP’s Maintenance Coordinator, Wilson do Pilar Cordeiro Junior, the old system limited the distributed load at the terminal to 10 MVA. In comparison, the new system is expected to provide 25 MVA, expandable to 50 MVA, with the future installation of a second transformer.

“With this increase in our load capacity, the substation will enable, for example, an expansion of the number of sockets in the reefer area from 3,572 to 5,126 by the end of the year, in addition to ensuring the power supply for electrified equipment, which is part of the terminal’s strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” Cordeiro explained.
