On Thursday, August 24th, the Liquid Bulk Terminal (TGL) at Imbituba Port entered a new phase. The inauguration of the facility’s new structure marked the end of an investment of approximately 15 million Brazilian reais by the lessee Fertisanta.

This investment was stipulated in the leasing agreement signed in 2022, following an auction for a 10-year contract. The company undertook the total revitalization of the structure, fully restoring two of the three existing storage tanks on the premises while also building new tanks and more than doubling the capacity to handle liquid bulk cargo. Up until now, the terminal operated with just one tank. Today, the TGL handles products such as caustic soda and sunflower oil.

Representing the governor of Santa Catarina, State Secretary of Ports, Airports, and Railways, Beto Martins, congratulated the administration of Imbituba Port and the investors of TGL. “We recognize the significance of this achievement for the city and Santa Catarina, as it expands the port’s cargo portfolio and addresses a crucial need for a sector that serves the industry in the state,” highlighted Martins, adding, “We understand that industries and states thrive when logistics are efficient, and all these investments occurring in Imbituba will undoubtedly add positively to ensure Santa Catarina remains a cutting-edge state.”

The TGL spans an area of approximately 7,500 square meters and features, in addition to the three tanks, 806 meters of feeding pipelines, enabling direct transport of cargo from ships to the terminal. The terminal is also equipped for loading road transport vehicles.

“The new structure improves operations at Imbituba Port, which has been growing, by increasing efficiency in the use of port infrastructure and promoting regional development through increased productivity, employment, and income,” emphasized Christiano Lopes, Director of Regulatory and Legal Affairs at SCPAR Porto de Imbituba, who represented the executive board of the Port Authority at the ceremony.

Philippe Huybrechs, CEO of Manuchar, the main shareholder of Fertisanta, commented on the Belgian company’s history in Imbituba and the opportunities that the port and the city of Santa Catarina have brought to the company. “To serve exporters and importers, you need to have tools, preferably within the port, and it is a great source of pride to inaugurate this terminal today, as it was the missing piece to offer a complete logistics service,” affirmed Huybrechs.

The event was attended by officials such as the municipal mayor, Rosenvaldo Júnior, and the President of the Port’s Board of Directors, Alexandre Amim Salum Jr., as well as clients and suppliers of the lessee, along with members of the port community in Imbituba.
