Chilean exports reached record-high values in Jan-Apr 2023, according to a government report based on data from the Central Bank and Customs. The Andean country’s exports rose to $34.633 million, a 7.3% increase ($2.358 million) from the same period in 2022.

The three main export categories showed growth: mining exports totaled $18.616 million (+$789 million, 4%), forestry and agricultural products reached $3.857 million (+$388 million, 11%), and industrial goods increased to $12.161 million (+$1.181 million, 11%).

The number of exporting companies also increased in all productive sectors, with the manufacturing industry, services, fishing and aquaculture, wines, forestry, and agriculture standing out.

The Subsecretary of International Economic Relations, Claudia Sanhueza, stated that the government has been working to allow micro, small, and medium-sized companies in Chile to increase their product and service sales in international markets. She mentioned that the Chilean export supply is expected to grow significantly in 2023.

Sanhueza added that these numbers endorse “the Government’s commitment to international trade that benefits everyone, supported by inclusive exchanges that offer new opportunities for exporters from all regions of the country.”

Chile’s commercial exchange amounted to $62.740 million in Jan-Apr 2023, registering a 6.2% drop compared to the same period in 2022 ($4.135 million). This decline was mainly due to an 18.8% decrease in imports (-$6.493 million), which was not fully offset by the 7.3% increase in exports (+$2.358 million). Overall, the country’s trade balance recorded a positive balance of $8.647 million in the same period.
