Brazil’s fertilizer imports are up 16.5%, says Cargonave

Brazil’s fertilizer imports totaled 16.64 million tonnes from January to May 2022, an increase of 16.5% compared to the volume purchased during the same period in 2021, according to data by Cargonave released on June 03.
The increased inflow occurred at a time of uncertainty regarding the supply of fertilizers, as Russia and Belarus, two of the main global suppliers, face reprehensive sanctions against the war in Ukraine. As a result, importers decided to anticipate purchases to secure enough availability for the crop period.
According to the survey, in the first five months of 2021, Brazil acquired 14.28 million tonnes of fertilizers.
In May, Brazil, which imports more than 85% of the fertilizers it uses, recorded the landing of 3.36 million tonnes, nearly 15,000 tonnes more than in the same period in 2021.
