Vale reports that in China this past Sunday, December 13, the mining company concluded its final shipment of cargo transported in vessels that have been converted from single-hull very large crude carriers (VLCCs) to very large ore carriers (VLOCs).
Following its new risk-management approach, Vale decided in January 2020 to eliminate or replace all converted ships involved in its cargo transportation, either by terminating contracts early or by amending them.
The company also announced that it is able to preserve its freight competitiveness through long-term contracts with shipowners for the use of more efficient and modern vessels, such as Valemax and Guaibamax.
