Trade between Brazil and China set to reach a record US$120 billion this year

The Brazil-China trade flow may reach a record US$ 120 billion this year, the highest in the history of trade between the two countries. Until the month of August, Sino-Brazilian exchange totaled US$ 93.835 billion, the result of Brazilian exports totaling US$ 64.422 billion and Chinese exports totaling US$ 29.413 billion. Last year, bilateral trade totaled US$ 102.566 billion, surpassing the US$ 100 billion barrier for the first time since the historical series started in 1997.

The trade balance with China generated a surplus of US$ 35.009 billion for Brazil, higher than the balance reached by Brazil throughout 2021, which is US$ 33.010 billion, according to the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) of the Ministry of Economy.

Between January-August, Brazilian exports to China rose by a robust 36.1% year-on-year, and the Asian country was the final destination for 34.1% of all exports carried out by Brazilian companies in the period, against a share of only 10.1% by the United States.

Chinese exports to Brazil also increased significantly between January and August, rising 32.1%.  With this, Chinese participation in the supply of goods to Brazil reached a percentage of 25.1%.
