Russia, one of Brazil’s biggest consumers, dropped off the list of coffee imports last month. Russians are generally ranked sixth, but due to the war, they fell to 23rd in terms of purchased volume in May.
According to the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (CECAFÉ), Russian purchases amounted to 18,600 bags, almost 0.67% of last month’s Brazilian exports. As a result, the revenue generated by coffee imports by Russia fell to US$ 4.7 million (R$ 23 million).
In the first five months of 2022, Russian imports dropped to 292,400 bags, 43% less than in the same period in 2021.
See below the track record of Brazilian coffee shipments to Russia from January 2021 to April 2022. The data below was extracted from Datamar’s DataLiner.

While Russia’s participation in the field decreased, Colombia’s share increased, propelling it to fifth place in the ranking of Brazilian exports. Brazil shopped 109 thousand bags in May, accounting for 3.9 percent of all Brazilian exports. Colombians purchased 552,000 bags in the first five months of this year. It is important to stress that Colombia is a major coffee producer and exporter.
