The Argentine beef industry is optimistic about world meat production, global demand, and Chinese purchases of the product in 2022.

According to a report issued by the Rosario Stock Exchange (BCR) and signed by the department Mercado Ganadero (Rosgan), the world will produce 58 million tons of meat, a 1% increase.

This projection would reverse the downward trend seen in 2021, owing to the recovery of the meat-packing industries in Brazil and Australia, the world’s first and third-largest meat exporters, respectively.

As for the global flow of imports, the expected average, according to analysts at BCR/Rosgan, is 10 million/t, which would imply an increase of 2.7% compared to last year.

China, which reduced the pace of international purchases of beef in 2021 to 950,000/t compared to more than 1.1 million/t in 2020 will once again represent 32% of global consumption. According to the Rosário Stock Exchange, the Chinese accounted for 13% of global meat demand in 2017.

At that time, Argentina was in the top five in this industry, having previously been in the top three.

Argentina has dropped out of the top ten beef exporters in recent years, owing to government restrictions on beef exports aimed at avoiding shortages and rising domestic prices.

China is also the main destination for Argentine meat cuts, which are highly valued for their quality.
