The volume of soybeans shipped from January to October through Brazil’s ports in the northern half of the country, known as the Northern Arc, reached 37.7% of the national total, compared to 32.6% in the same period in 2021, representing the highest volume among Brazilian ports. The information is included in the National Supply Company’s (Conab) monthly Logistic Bulletin.

The Port of Santos, on the São Paulo state coast, saw 33.6% of the national oilseed shipments between January and October, compared to 27.2% in the same period last year.

Paranaguá (Paraná) shipped 12.8% of exports compared to 14.2% in the previous year, while the Port of Rio Grande shipped 6.5% compared to 14.6% during the last year.

Most of the grains exported came from Mato Grosso, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Paraná, and São Paulo.

According to the Conab study, the ports in the Northern Arc handled 45.5% of the national corn movement from January to October, compared to 48.1% in the same period the previous year.

The Port of Santos ranked second in corn shipments, with 35.4% of the total movement compared to 39% of the previous year. On the other hand, the port of Paranaguá registered 12.4% of the volumes shipped compared to 5.5% in the same period last year.

According to Conab, the strong pace of Brazilian corn exports has been driven upward by favorable international prices throughout the season, despite recent expectations, which point to greater slack in world supply and demand. However, internally, the upward movement was limited by the resistance of buyers, particularly producers of inputs for the animal protein sector, who preferred to use their stocks, also keeping an eye on international demand.
