May, 19, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202122
This week marks one year of pulp handling at the Port of Imbituba. The inaugural operation on May 17, 2020, was carried out as a test with the expectation that the cargo would be included in the catalog of regular operations. Since then, the port has acquired experience and improved its productivity and has handled more than 200,000 tons of pulp.
The most recent loading operation took place at the beginning of the month, on May 6. Approximately 60,000 tons of cargo have already been shipped this year and, in 2020, there were 141 thousand tons shipped. The best month for pulp operations at the port was November when 21,000 tons were handled in just one operation.
The company responsible for pulp operations is Santos Brasil, which leases the General Cargo Terminal (TCG) in the port area. The cargo originates from the municipality of Três Lagoas (MS), and is usually destined for China or South Korea.
