Port movement grows 9.4% in the first half

The Brazilian port sector (organized ports + authorized and leased terminals) handled 591.9 million tons in the first six months of the year, a growth of 9.4% compared to the same period last year. The data are from ANTAQ’s Waterway Statistics and were released this Wednesday (August 11).

Regarding the cargo profile, there was an increase in the handling of solid bulk, liquid bulk, containers, and loose general cargo. The table below shows the first six months of the year compared to the same period last year.

Iron ore was the most-handled cargo in the first half: 171.8 million tons (growth of 12%). Oil appeared in the second position: 97.2 million tons (an increase of 8%). Soybeans, containers, and oil products also showed strong growth.

The cargo handling projection for the second half is 626 million tons.

For the year, the total should be 1.218 billion tons, an increase of 5.5% compared to 2020.
