Pecém sets new handling record: 10 million tons in the first half of 2021

For the first time since it opened in 2002, the Port of Pecém handled more than 10 million tons in a single semester.

To reach the record level, the port registered 1,578,353 tons handled in June 202. There were 1,103,138 tons unloaded, 38% more than the amount handled in June 2020. Exports totaled 475,215 tons, up 24% compared to the same month last year, when 1,181,115 tons were handled.

In total, the accumulated movement of 2021, that is, from January to June of this year, resulted in the unprecedented mark of 10,037,467 tons, with 6,986,994 tons of imports and 3,050,473 tons of exports. This represents a 25% growth over the same period in 2020 when 8,025,915 tons were handled.

Movement by navigation

Cabotage navigation totaled 5,776,198 tons, an increase of 39% over 2020. In cabotage imports, the main products handled were: ores (2,243,570 t); mineral fuels (523,406 t); cereals (272,467 t); and cast iron (258,997 t). The main exports of cabotage were due to the movements of cast iron (419,167 t); salt (275,079 t); mineral fuels (231,060 t); and products from the milling industry (103,656 t).

In total, year-to-date 2021 handling registered an increase of 25% over the same period of 2020.

Long-haul navigation totaled 4,261,269 tons, a 10% growth over 2020. Solid bulk totaled 2,514,548 tons (59%), Loose Cargo totaled 1,336,853 tons (31%), Liquid Bulk totaled 209,122 tons (5%), and Containerized Cargo totaled 200,746 tons (5%). In long-haul landings, the main products handled were: mineral fuels (2,339,324 t); cast iron (325,941 t); ores (111,077 t); and machines (24,726 t). The highlights of long-haul shipments were: cast iron (985,255 t); mineral fuels (121,096 t); ores (109,500 t); and fruits (75,107 t).

The year-to-date container handling registered 183,308 TEU (110,963 units), a growth of 21% over the result obtained in the same period in 2020. Cabotage accounted for 165,741 TEU, a growth of 23% over the same period last year.

In the long haul, the handling was 17,567 TEUs, 5% growth compared to 2020. In tons, the handling of containerized cargo presented a result of 2,440,941 tons, a 19% increase compared to 2020.
