Paraguayan corn exports were 83% lower in January

Paraguayan corn exports were 83.9% lower in January than the same month in 2021, according to information by Tf Agroecoonomica. “The volume of corn destined for exportation in January totaled 62,925 thousand tons, a decrease of 83.9% (328,242 thousand tons) compared to 391,167 thousand tons in January 2021,” comments the consultancy firm.

The drop of 34%, or 1,428 million tons, in the 2021 crop largely explains this disparity. The harvest in 2021 was 2,745 million tons, down from 4,173 million tons in 2020. Another reason has to do with logistics. Because of the soybean harvest, a large portion of the 2020 corn sold could not be exported between September and October 2020. In fact, cargo freighters could not complete the export until January 2021. Because there were no soybeans to process in January, the corn was eventually exported,” completes the consultancy.
