The growing logistics demand from sectors like mining and pulp and paper in Bahia is propelling Multilog’s business forward. With operations at the ports of Salvador and Ilhéus, the company is providing services to mining companies and industries, and it foresees further expansion of its port operations in the region.

“Bahia has stood out on the national mining map with production growth, as well as in the pulp, paper, and chemical sectors. Because of this, our demand for projects involving the loading and unloading of products has grown,” says Murillo Mello, Northeast Regional Director of Multilog. He emphasizes that the local operation is expected to drive the company’s growth in the Northeast region, supported by an integrated logistics operation structure.

In the field of renewable energy, the company also possesses a functional structure to handle large equipment, such as wind turbine blades and towers, which are increasingly being imported into the state. “Bahia has become a hub for wind energy, with numerous parks installed and others under construction, and we are attentive to businesses related to this sector,” adds the director.

Multilog currently performs considerable operations at the two port terminals. Notable examples include the storage and loading of dissolving pulp (used in producing food and pharmaceutical items, among other things) onto ships destined for Asia. In Salvador, an average of 14,000 tonnes are loaded per month, divided into two shipments of 7,000 tons per day during a two-day period. This capacity is approximately 500 containers each month, involving specialized equipment such as forklifts equipped with cellulose bale clamps.

Multilog manages the storage and bulk loading of nickel concentrate, a material widely utilized in rechargeable batteries, in Ilhéus for the mining sector. The company receives the product-carrying trucks in dump trucks on a daily basis for around 25 days and completes the loading aboard ships in a day and a half utilizing articulated boxes.

In a similar vein, Multilog exports lithium concentrate, a mineral also used in electric car batteries, loading approximately 8,000 tons on ships quarterly.

Multilog already generates gross operating revenue of over R$100 million in Bahia – equivalent to 8% of the group’s total- and aims to elevate its revenue to R$250 million in the coming years, driven by its port operations.
