The Port of Manaus is inaugurating the world’s first three electric cranes for the port sector. Acquired in Germany by Super Terminais, these electric cranes will allow a reduction of 5,200 liters in the use of hydraulic oil annually, resulting in savings of approximately BRL 345,000 per year.

The port is also inaugurating the expansion of the terminal’s floating pier by 180 meters, enabling the docking of four ships simultaneously, doubling the current capacity. Super Terminais has invested BRL 260 million over the last three years to expand the terminal’s capacity and purchase high-tech equipment that reduces the environmental impact of port activities.

The new equipment is expected to lead to a 25% increase in Super Terminais’ productivity.

The electric cranes arrived in Manaus in September 2022, weighing approximately 600 tons. “The ESP 10 crane models have a lifting capacity of up to 125 tons and a speed of up to 120 meters per minute. The boom’s reach extends to 64 meters, allowing us to serve larger vessels, such as Super Post Panamax-class ships, with a length of 1,000 feet (305 meters). Another important aspect is the expansion of our floating pier by 180 meters. With this, we will reach 600 meters in length and 14.4 thousand square meters in area, enabling four ships to dock at our terminal simultaneously,” said Marcello Di Gregorio, Director of Super Terminais.
