The new warehouse facility at Itapoá Port is about to be inaugurated and will feature various safety and environmental innovations. Spanning 8,000 square meters, the structure will complement the newly constructed yard space, which is expected to go fully operational soon. As a result, the terminal will have a 455,000 square meters long yard, with the capacity to handle up to 2 million TEUs per year.

Sergni Pessoa Rosa Jr., Director of Operations, Technology, and the Environment at Itapoá Port, stated that the warehouse was designed to expedite operations while ensuring safety for everyone. “It will be a multipurpose space with various technological assets and infrastructure for achieving high operational performance sustainably,” he promised.

The structure includes 12 side gates, three truck docks with leveling ramps for cross-docking operations (unloading containers at the terminal), and 2,271 pallet positions, among other features, such as a cold chamber with dedicated spaces for chilled and frozen cargoes separately.

Rosa Jr. explains that the cross-docking operations warehouse is expected to handle up to 2,400 containers per month. Furthermore, the terminal intends to carry out up to 150 Less Container Load (LCL) shipments each month. “Obviously, there will be an adjustment period to reach the level we expect, but the structure will contribute significantly to this improvement,” Rosa Jr. said.

Security and efficiency

The warehouse will be equipped with 80 cameras with 4K resolution images. Interconnected in a monitoring network with an artificial intelligence system, the cameras will be able to identify suspicious movements and alert the responsible parties. This circuit will have its own data center to safeguard the collected information.

The cameras will also assist the Federal Revenue inspection, which can rely on high-resolution images for online inspections. The inspector can assess remotely in these cases, making this operation more effective.

Regulatory bodies will have facilities to provide more convenience for their professionals daily. The Federal Revenue’s canine unit will also be relocated to this space.
