Itajaí and Navegantes port complex handled more than 1.6 million containers in 2021

The Itajaí and Navegantes Port Complex finished 2021 with a historic record in handling, with a 16% increase in TEUs and a 21% increase in tonnage. From January to December, 1,643,152 TEUs and 18,945,270 tons were handled, compared to 1,419,082 TEUs and 15,655,812 tons in the previous year. In terms of berths, 1066 ships were registered in the complex throughout 2021, representing a 2% increase.

Mechanical and electronic products (62.6%), chemical products (65.8%), and various textiles (42.0%) were among the main categories of products that landed at the port complex throughout 2021. Together, they were responsible for 44% of the imported cargo. Imports represented an annual handling movement of 590,648 TEUs, against 437,955 in 2020, leading to a growth of 35%.

Exports accounted for 56% of handlings. Chicken (19.9%), wood derivatives (65.2%), and meat (28.4) were among the main products exported during the entire 2021. The annual handling was 195,608 TEUs compared to 173,092 TEUs in the previous year, indicating a growth of 13%.

Overall, 2022 was a good year. The complex’s handling of full containers increased by 23%, with yearly handling of 1,272,925 TEUs compared to 1,031,431 TEUs in 2020. Cabotage handling increased by 2%, with 136,549 TEUs handled compared to 133,936 in 2020.

Looking specifically at December, compared to the same period in 2020, the complex showed a growth of 4% in TEUs handling and 11% in tonnage. In 2020, 139,061 TEUs and 1,538,318 tons were handled, increasing to 144,076 TEUs and 1,711,407 tons in 2021. In December 2021, 99 moorings were recorded in the complex, an increase of 6%.

At the Port of Itajaí (Public Berths and APM Terminals/leased area), the year ended with 517,541 TEUs handled vis-a-vis 545,338 TEUs in 2020. In terms of tonnage, the handling movement recorded was 5,973,789 as opposed to 6,054,049 tons in the previous year.

TUP Portonave ended the year with a 29% growth in containers and a 33% growth in tonnage. In 2021, the terminal handled 1,125,611 TEUs and 12,614,318 tons, compared to 873,744 TEUs and 9,476,718 tons in 2020.

The TUP Teporti recorded 37 stopovers with a total load of 195,688 tons, representing a 201 percent growth in loads over 2020, which totaled 19 stopovers with a total load of 64,931 tons handled.

TUP Poly Terminais registered a 27% growth in cargo handling, totaling 11 stopovers with 59,200 tons in 2021.

TUP Braskarne managed 27 stopovers with 93,969 tons, in the previous year, the terminal did not record any cargo handling.

The TUP Barra do Rio operated 3 stopovers of 8,306 tons, representing a drop of 39% compared to the previous year.
