Week 201912

On Sunday, Ibicuy Port in Entre Rios, Argentina, loaded its first cargo in eight years, 14,000 tons of rice being exported to Iraq. The river port, situated on the delta of two of the world’s largest rivers, the Paraná River and the Uruguay River, has a 34 feet deep natural draft. The port went out of action in September 2011, due to the collapse of the New Quay which occurred during the handling of iron ore that exceeded the wharf cargo design capabilities.

The Port of Ibicuy’s quay (known as Continental Quay) for long-haul vessels has reinforced concrete and a steel framework. The quay is 160m long and 14m wide. The port does not have its own tugboats; however, vessels over LOA 157m can request assistance from Campana.  The port is expecting to load wood destined for China on another vessel next week.
