Hidrovias do Brasil reported that in September, it sailed on an atypical and restrictive basis in the Southern Corridor, amid the water crisis in the region of Corumbá, which should impact shipping in October.

“It was an atypical scenario, with the level of draft of the rivers below the historical averages in the region and. According to projections, we believe that the most credible scenario in October is of non-navigation”, announced Hidrovias do Brasil, in a statement.

Trains to Vale subsidiary

The company also announced on October 1st that it received from Mineração Corumbaense Reunida, a subsidiary of Vale International, a request for the dedication of eight convoys to provide services in 2022.

The order was sent to Girocantex, a subsidiary of Hidrovias do Brasil, under the terms of the river transport contract signed in July 2012.

With the application, the company expects to move the maximum contractual volume foreseen. The contract establishes the transport of up to 3,200 tons of iron ore per year on the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway for a period of 25 years.
