Brazil’s President, Jair Bolsonaro, tweeted this morning (see below) the decision to call an auction for six port areas, located in the Port of Vila do Conde and in the Port of Belém. The government expects R$430m of investments in the terminal areas.

Earlier this week, Bolsonaro reinforced his plans to organize 23 different auctions around the country, including port terminals, airports, and railways, within the first 100 days of taking office.

The North-South railway (FNS) project is one of the most publicized concessions from the bunch. The project covers 1,537km of railroad between Estrela D’Oeste, in São Paulo and Porto Nacional, in the Amazon state of Tocantins. The auction is scheduled to take place in the São Paulo Stock Exchange (B3) on March 28 and will grant a 30-year tenure with no extension possibility. The minimum bid for the auction is R$1.354bn, but the organizers are hopeful of raising R$2.8bn in investments. The estimate is the railway has the potential to move 1.7m tons by 2020, and 22.73m tons by 2055.
