Eurasian Economic Union Opens Market to Live Pig Exports from Brazil
May, 09, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202419
The Brazilian government welcomed a recent decision by the Eurasian Economic Union (UEEA) in favor of Brazilian live pig exports, which includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
This marks the second significant expansion within the UEEA for Brazilian agricultural products in less than ten months. In September 2023, the Union authorized exports of live cattle from Brazil. These market access accomplishments stem from collaborative efforts between representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Brazilian Embassy in Russia.
In the previous year, Brazil’s agribusiness exports to the UEEA surpassed US$1.2 billion, with notable contributions from soybeans, beef, green coffee, and raw sugar.
This latest development signifies the 39th market opening for Brazilian agribusiness in 24 countries within the current year alone, and the 117th since the start of President Lula’s term, showing a sustained effort to expand global trade opportunities.
These milestones reflect a coordinated approach between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering international trade relationships and promoting Brazil’s agricultural prowess on the global stage.
