The implementation of the Green Hydrogen Hub at the Pecém Port Complex was approved during the 309th regular meeting of the State Council for the Environment (Coema), held on Tuesday (05) at the auditorium of the State Environmental Superintendence (Semace). The vote had 20 in favor, four against, and one abstention. In addition, the project for the Lagoinha Photovoltaic Solar Complex was also approved, with 22 in favor and three abstentions.

The meeting, chaired by Semace’s superintendent, Carlos Alberto Mendes, and the Secretary of Internal Planning and Management of the Environment Secretariat, Gustavo Vicentino, was attended by council members and other authorities.

Semace’s superintendent, Carlos Alberto Mendes, emphasized that the state of Ceará is making history in a planned and organized manner. “The project will use an area designated for green hydrogen plants in the processing and export zone (ZEP). Companies will have the opportunity to start the process at the installation license stage since all the area studies have been conducted, and the EIA/RIMA has been approved with more than 25 plans and programs to mitigate environmental impacts and enhance positive impacts. The next step will be issuing the preliminary license so that interested companies can submit their applications for the installation phase,” he said.

During the hybrid meeting, projects for creating the Permanent Technical Chamber for Environmental Education of COEMA – CTPEA, Ventos de Acaraú Wind Complex, and Arapuá Photovoltaic Complex were also discussed. However, due to requests for further review, as per the internal regulations, these projects will be analyzed at the council’s next meeting.
