Egg exports from Brazil grow 93.1% in 2023

The Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) has released data showing that egg exports from Brazil (including fresh and processed products) reached 11,950 thousand tonnes between January and May.

This volume represents a staggering 93.1% increase compared to the same period last year when 6,187 thousand tonnes were shipped.

In terms of revenue, egg exports from Brazil totaled US$ 29.670 million between January and May, reflecting a remarkable 165.8% increase compared to the same period in 2022, when US$ 11.164 million were recorded.

In just five months, international egg sales surpassed Brazil’s total exports by 2022, when the country shipped 9,474 thousand tonnes.

A similar trend is observed in terms of income, with a total of US$ 22.4 million in the twelve months of last year.

In May alone, Brazilian egg exports reached 4,346 thousand tonnes, a substantial volume 592% higher than the 628 tonnes shipped in the fifth month of 2022.

Furthermore, there was a remarkable increase in revenue, with a growth of 429.4%, totaling US$ 10.069 million in May this year compared to US$ 1.902 million in the same period last year.

Luis Rua, the director of markets at ABPA, emphasizes the importance of maintaining the trade flow and expanding markets to strengthen the egg sector’s export standing, which is diversifying its customer base.

Japan remains the primary destination for international sales of Brazilian eggs, importing 4,980 thousand tonnes between January and May this year, representing an astounding increase of 1190% compared to the same period in 2022 when 386 tonnes were registered.

Taiwan is second, with 3,594 thousand tonnes (compared to zero shipments to that destination last year).

Sales to the United States have also grown significantly, with 458 tonnes exported (+83.2%).

Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA, highlights the shift in international sales of Brazilian eggs. Japan and Taiwan have become the main export destinations, accounting for over 70% of Brazil’s total shipments this year. These markets have high added value and stringent sanitary standards, reinforcing the international recognition of the quality of Brazilian products.
