Corn line-up confirms weak 2021 exports; 50% of 2020 levels

The decrease in Brazilian corn exports can be seen in the shipping positions at the ports.

The line-up for the cereal on October 27 in a survey by Germinar Corretora de Mercadorias in Brazil, presents 1.662 million tons – and 350,000 tons in imports.

The list of records provided by the port authorities includes ships being loaded, anchored offshore waiting to be moored, and those expected to arrive.

Roberto Carlos Rafael, the company’s CEO, estimated that 2 million tons were exported so far in October according to the CONAB crop calendar with which the market works, which begins on February 1st.

In the accumulated result from February to September, 10.489 million tons were exported. Hence, adding October, he believes it will be around 12.5 million/t in this period, against just over 22 million in the same months of 2020.

“Exports are very slow, and can be between 15 and 16 million tons until January,” says the trader specializing in corn.
