Comexport takes over Log-in’s vehicle terminal in the Port of Vitória

Comexport, a prominent foreign trade company specializing in vehicle imports, has taken over the vehicle terminal in the Port of Vitória previously operated by Log-in. Following the expiration of Log-in’s contract, the port authority VPorts (formerly known as Codesa and now privatized) opted to change the operator.

Over the next two years, Comexport plans to invest R$ 20 million in capital goods, utilizing its own funds. The length of the contract has not been disclosed, but it includes an additional 4,000 square meters of expansion in addition to the area previously managed by Log-in.

Comexport already had a presence at the port as Log-in’s exclusive client at the terminal, explains Rodrigo Teixeira, the company’s Commercial Vice President. Now, the group intends to broaden its operations by offering new services to its customers.

“Under the new model, the automaker will be able to customize its operations within the terminal. Before, there was no specific area for storing vehicles or performing the required inspections and preparations for their removal. When vehicles arrive in Brazil, they must undergo checks on their electrical components, record their chassis, and have labels placed. With the new arrangement, all of these tasks can now be carried out within the port itself, leading to a reduction in the time taken by the assembler. We have a range of new solutions that we can introduce,” says Teixeira.

For VPorts, the private operator under Quadra Capital, which took over the Port of Vitória at the end of 2022, this marks the third terminal contract signed since taking up the management. The previous two contracts were with Technip and Fortenave.

“We are taking advantage of the possibilities offered by this new port authority model. These are commercial relationships based on direct negotiations, allowing us to tailor the model exactly to the sector’s needs without the constraints of public contracts. It offers the flexibility, size, and term that the sector requires. For example, if a company wishes to expand or reduce the area in two years, it has that option. If it wants to increase additional services, it also has the option. This provides flexibility and enhances competitiveness,” explains Ilson Hulle, CEO of VPorts.

Log-in will continue its operations in the Port of Vitória with a container and general cargo terminal under a lease agreement that runs until 2048. “Nothing changes in this operation; the company remains a significant and strategic player with high growth potential in other businesses. The key point is that the contract for the vehicle terminal ended as scheduled, and VPorts opted for a new model,” concluded Hulle.
