Chilean shipments of fresh fruit reach 2.3 million tons between January and September

Chilean fresh fruit reached sales of 2.3 million tons, equivalent to US$ 4,159 million FOB in the period from January to September 2021.

These exports registered a slight volume increase of 0.5% and an increase in value of 1.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to the Secretariat for Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa), the main species exported in this period was 266,000 tons of cherries, equivalent to US$ 1,196 million FOB, an increase of 83% in volume and 25% in value in compared to the same period of the previous year. China receives 90% of cherry shipments.

Table grapes remain important, recording 522,000 tons, equivalent to US$ 906.2 million FOB, a drop of -13% in volume and -12% in value compared to the same period of the previous year, and with shipments mainly to the US (47%) and China (15%).

In third place are apples, with 591,000 tons, equivalent to US$ 548 million FOB, with a drop in shipments of -3% in volume and a slight increase of 0.2% in value, compared to the same period of the previous year.

These four species, together with kiwi fruit (fifth-most exported fruit) account for 80% of the total value of fresh fruit exported in the period analyzed.
