Cargo exports in containers increase 24% in the Port of Paranaguá

The Port of Paranaguá saw an increase in containerized cargo exports. The high levels observed were recorded in volume and twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). Last month, 436,826 tons were loaded, up 24% from the 352,135 tons recorded in January 2021.

In total, 50,490 TEUs were shipped throughout January this year, 7% more than the 47,169 TEUs registered last year.

We managed to maintain the growth pace achieved in 2021 when we reached the milestone of 1.1 million TEUs handled,” comments Luiz Fernando Garcia, the CEO of Portos do Paraná.

TCP manages operations and the container terminal at the Port of Paranaguá. Adding exports and imports, the total movement in January 2022 was 88,073 TEUs, a 4% increase over the 84,508 TEUs registered in the same month the previous year.

In terms of total volume, the increase reached 11%, with 671,649 tons of containerized cargo recorded in January this year, compared to 605,047 tons last year.

In January 2022, the main cargoes exported in containers by the Paraná terminal were chicken, wood, paper, and cellulose. On the other hand, the most common products were electronics, organic chemicals, plastic, and fertilizers in terms of imports.
