On September 7, Santa Catarina’s Governor Jorginho Mello authorized the use of nearly R$ 20 million for two infrastructure projects in Imbituba. An agreement was signed, allowing the transfer of R$ 17.6 million for the revitalization of Renato Ramos da Silva Avenue, known as the Southern Access of Imbituba. These funds will come from the financial dividends of the Port of Imbituba. An additional R$ 2 million, coming from state government resources, will be dedicated to paving the central avenue of Praia do Rosa in the Ibiraquera neighborhood.
The Secretariat of Ports, Airports, and Railways (SPAF) and SCPAR are also parties to the agreement, which was celebrated with the Municipality of Imbituba, responsible for executing the project.
“The port is of great importance to the city, and ensuring it doesn’t disturb the people is crucial. These funds are a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Imbituba residents,” stated Governor Jorginho Mello.
“The Southern Access is one of the main routes to the Port of Imbituba and directly feels the impact of the port’s high traffic. This is why we managed to sway the Ministry of Ports and Airports to allow the use of port dividends for this project. It’s a significant achievement and represents the largest investment in the state’s history for a single public works agreement in Imbituba,” emphasized Beto Martins, the Secretary of Ports, Airports, and Railways.
Currently, around 87% of the cargo handled at the Port of Imbituba comes through the municipality’s South and North access routes. Interventions are needed to ensure efficient port operations in the coming years. The structural renovation of the Southern Access has become a top priority with the prospects of intervention and duplication of the North Access, which will result in increased vehicular traffic to the Southern Access during the execution of its works.
