Brazil’s light vehicle exports slump 41.3% in Q1

According to Anfavea data (Brazil’s National Automobile Manufacturers Association), Brazil experienced a significant dip in light vehicle exports in the first quarter of 2019, down 41.3% to 99,963 units compared to 170,403 units year-on-year. The decline in exports has slightly impacted production, down 0.5% to 664,853 units, compared to 668,434 units produced in January and March last year.

The country’s truck production saw minor improvement in the same period, up 1.3% to 24,761 units, from 24,434 units in the same period last year. However, truck exports slumped to 2,519 units in the first quarter of 2019, down 65.6% compared to 7,324 units in the same period last year.

That said, Brazil’s domestic market flourished in the first four months of this year. In total, the country granted licenses to 1,244,151 vehicles between January and April of 2019, up 12.2% compared to the same period last year, according to the National Federation of Vehicle Distributors (Fenabrave). 801,330 units of light vehicles were granted licenses in the same period, marking a growth of 8.71% year-on-year.
