Açaí can be consumed with side dishes, condensed milk, powdered milk, banana, or even pure. The fact is that açaí has gained tremendous space among Brazilians. According to data from the Federation of Industries of the State of Pará (Fiepa), exports have grown by almost 15,000% in the last ten years.
Pará is the biggest domestic consumer and also the largest exporter of the fruit, responsible for 95% of the national production that leaves the state as frozen pulp. In recent years, açaí has become known worldwide for its energy-refueling properties, becoming the flagship product of the Amazon rainforest.
The United States is the leading importer of Brazilian açaí. Brazil’s fruit production in 2020 exceeded one million and 500 thousand tonnes. According to Fiepa’s report, this market sector grew by 51% between 2019 and 2020.
