The Port of Ilhéus in Bahia will offer discounts on tariffs of up to 65% to its users. Located in southern Bahia, the port complex is the fourth in the country to join the Federal Government’s list of discounts aimed at strengthening the infrastructure sector. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Ports and Airports.

The other ports that will offer tariff discounts are Santos (SP), Portos Rio (RJ), and Rio Grande (RS).

According to the Port Authority of the State of Bahia (Codeba), the tariff is charged based on the gross tonnage of the vessel, regardless of the quantity of cargo transported, which increases the expenses for some users. Now, exporters of solid mineral bulks that reach a consignment rate below 50% of the total vessel capacity will benefit from discounts.

The discounts announced meet the regulation of the National Agency of Water Transport (Antaq).

The goal is to increase the efficiency of the port system through modernization and innovation, making public terminals more competitive without losing sight of fair tariff collection. The so-called “tariff moderation,” provided for in Law No. 8.987 of 1995, is at the base of an adequate public service provision, one of the main flags of the new Federal Government and the MPOR.

Port of Santos

At the Port of Santos, the tariff discount can reach up to 65%. According to the Port Authority, the fee will be calculated based on the type of navigation and frequency of use of the terminal by the vessel. The idea is to keep users regular.

Seeking to foster eco-friendly agenda, “green vessels,” which have a positive score on the Ship Environmental Index, will pay even lower tariffs at the Port of Santos. Discounts can reach 12%.

Portos Rio (RJ)

Portos Rio, responsible for the management of the public ports of Rio de Janeiro, Itaguaí, Niterói, and Angra dos Reis, has also tweaked the collection of port fees. Previously, the charge value was calculated according to the weight that the ship was designed to carry (cargo, supplies, fuel, etc.). Now, the collection will be according to the type and weight of the cargo transported and the navigation style. Discounts reach 95.5% for some types of cargo.

Port of Rio Grande (RS)

At the Port of Rio Grande (RS), the tariff discount is focused on Inland Navigation, which deals with operational or terrestrial infrastructure services within the port. The first movement of goods coming from Inland Navigation stored to be shipped later will now be exempt from tariffs. In addition, there will also be a tariff reduction for cabotage transport.
