Brazil ships 30,450 tons of rice to Cuba

The ship Haydee carrying 30,450 tons of white rice (#5) has finished loading and is departing from the Port of Rio Grande for Cuba. This is the second boat headed to the Caribbean island in two months based on an important effort by industries and trading companies to make the business viable due to the uncompetitive prices in Brazil this season compared to competing suppliers, such as Mercosur and the United States.
Exports are commemorated because Brazilian competitiveness has dropped significantly due to the relationship between internal and external prices, exchange rates, and the 350% increase in the value of freight since the beginning of the year. For containers, the increase in costs was more than 700%. Due to the lower competitiveness, a second boat – contracted in August and which could have been shipped from Brazil – will be loaded in Argentina in a few days with 29,000 tons destined for Cuba with its 11.33 million inhabitants.
