Brazil has successfully expanded its agribusiness reach, securing access to 51 new international markets for its agricultural and livestock products by September 2023.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) played a pivotal role in facilitating negotiations across the Americas, including countries like Argentina, Canada, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, and Panama, resulting in the opening of 22 new markets.

In the Asian region, Brazil successfully gained access to markets in Indonesia, Singapore, China, India, Malaysia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, totaling 14 new markets.

Across the African continent, negotiations with Egypt, Algeria, Angola, and South Africa resulted in the opening of seven new markets for Brazilian products.

In Europe, Brazil established trade agreements with Russia and Belarus, leading to the opening of two markets. In the Oceania region, which includes French Polynesia, New Caledonia, and Vanuatu, four new markets were established. In the Middle East, Brazil secured access to the markets of Israel and Saudi Arabia, totaling two new items.

The process of opening these markets involves bilateral negotiations that lead to agreements on the required health and safety standards, as well as corresponding certificates for sanitary, phytosanitary, or veterinary conditions. These certificates are accepted by the importing countries at their entry points for the goods.

Moreover, the preparation of producers and exporters to meet the specific requirements of each new partner country is essential. Brazil also engages in promotional and marketing activities to showcase its agricultural and livestock products in these markets.

The presence of Brazilian agricultural attachés plays a crucial role in identifying opportunities to sell national products, attract foreign investors, and overcome export barriers.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and the Secretariat of Commerce and International Relations (SCRI/MAPA) highlight the significant achievement of expanding access to critical markets, mainly the export of Brazilian beef and pork to Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

In August 2023, Brazilian agribusiness exports reached $15.63 billion, representing a 6.6% increase compared to the same month in the previous year. These exports accounted for 50.4% of Brazil’s total exports.

This development underscores Brazil’s continued efforts to strengthen its position in the global agribusiness landscape and diversify its trade partners.
