Two important protocols concerning the export of Brazilian agricultural products were officially signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and Indonesian health authorities. This strategic move marks the opening up of two new markets for Brazil and represents a progressive stride in trade relations with the nation.

“Throughout these past seven months, our endeavors have been dedicated to broadening our markets, focusing on exports that bring added value, thereby fostering job creation in both rural and urban areas,” commented Carlos Fávaro, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock.

As outlined in the signed protocols, Brazil will now be able to export cattle, contributing to the genetic enhancement of Indonesia’s cattle population, along with animal by-products destined for animal feed. Between January and July this year, Brazilian exports to Indonesia exceeded $1.98 billion. Leading the exports are products such as soymeal, various animal feeds (excluding non-milled cereals), meat meals, and other animal meals, accounting for 51% of the products exported to Indonesia during this period.

In May, Minister Fávaro engaged in a virtual meeting with his Indonesian counterpart, Minister of Agriculture Yasin Limpo, to deliberate on the strengthening of trade ties between the two nations. Earlier this year, Indonesia made the decision of opening its market to Brazilian beef.

The ceremonial signing of the cooperation protocols took place in Belém, Pará, where Indonesian health authorities convened on the occasion of the Amazon Summit. Attending the event were key figures, including Carlos Goulart, Secretary of Agricultural Defense, Jesus de Nazareno Magalhães de Sena, Federal Superintendent of Agriculture and Livestock of Pará, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments of Indonesia, Dr. Ir Nasrullah, Director General of Livestock and Health at Indonesian Animal Health, and Nuryani Zainuddin, Director of Indonesian Animal Health.

With these recent developments, Brazil has now successfully opened up 31 new markets for its agricultural products this year alone, solidifying its position as a major player in global trade.
