Brazil exported 3.471 million bags of 60 kg of coffee in October, 3.2% less than in the same month of 2021.

Revenue, however, grew, at the base of 30.5%, with the value jumping from US$ 653.4 million to US$ 852.5 million, announced on Thursday, 10, the Council of Coffee Exporters of Brazil (Cecafé), in a note.

The earned income represents “the highest level since 2011”, says the entity.

In the first four months of 2022/23, Brazil saw exports fall 2.2% to 12.288 million coffee bags from July to October, while the revenue rose “historical record for the period,” points out Cecafé.

According to the entity’s president, Günter Häusler, difficulties in shipping the commodity persist, with “lower availability of containers, congested ships in ports in the Northern Hemisphere, mainly in the United States and Europe, difficulties in obtaining bookings, cargo rollovers and very high costs, which hinder the work of exporters.”

The director also points out that “there is greater domestic demand for canephora coffee, limiting the shipment of this variety.”

Häusler explains that the exchange rate has favored the strong growth in revenue from coffee exports.

Furthermore, “despite recent declines, current market levels of coffee prices remain high.”

According to Cecafé, the average price of Brazilian exports in 2022 is US$ 235.49 per bag, an increase of 62.7% compared to US$ 144.73 per bag between January and the end of October 2021.

Arabica coffee continues to lead exports, 86.1% of the total between January and October, or 27.803 million bags.

Soluble coffee shipments reached 3.118 million bags or 9.7%.

The canephora variety (robusta + conilon) was the third most exported variety, with 1.333 million bags (4.1% share of total exports).

The United States was the year’s top destination for Brazilian coffee, with 6.598 million bags (20.4% of the total) and a volume 1.4% higher than in the same period in 2021.

Next comes Germany, with 5.744 million bags (+4.5%); Italy, with 2,760 million (+15.5%); Belgium, with 2.480 million bags (+9%) and Japan, with 1.533 million bags (-26.1%).
