The Brazilian government celebrated Costa Rica’s announcement that the largest country in South America is now authorized to export avocados to its market. This marks Brazil’s third market secured in Costa Rica in 2024, which is expected to enhance trade flows between the two nations, reflecting international confidence in Brazil’s sanitary control system.
Costa Rica is a significant destination for Brazilian agribusiness products. Brazilian agricultural exports to Costa Rica totaled $153 million in the first half of this year.
In February, Brazil secured the opening of the Costa Rican market for products based on mesenchymal stem cells from dogs, cats, and horses for therapeutic purposes. In July, Costa Rica opened its market for live horse shipments.
With this latest development, Brazilian agribusiness has achieved its 89th market opening this year, totaling 167 openings in 55 destinations since the beginning of 2023. These successes result from the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
