The first half of 2023 has been quite eventful in the shipping market. Despite low cargo demands and a surplus of tonnage from carriers in the first quarter, the second quarter saw a significant increase in import demand, leading to substantial growth in transported volumes starting in May. This scenario contributed to an approximately 100% increase in average freight rates, comparing the first and second quarters, based on the Far East to East Coast of South America (ECSA) market.

Despite all this activity, Asia Shipping, a Brazilian multinational specializing in cargo integration, recorded an increase of around 18% in maritime imports in the first half of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. Among the most demanded cargoes in this service are products from the automotive, retail, textile, solar panel, and household appliance sectors.

The multinational has been a leader in maritime import services for over a decade. “Today, Asia Shipping holds the top position with more than half of the major carriers in terms of volumes transported on the Far East to ECSA route. This partnership is one of the differentiators of our service because we can offer our customers greater allocation and space protection in various route alternatives. Another advantage we offer is personalized services, allowing us to tailor cargo transportation strategies to best serve the customer,” commented William Verona, Pricing at the FCL Import Department of Asia Shipping.

For the second half, the integrator expects a significant increase in operations due to the Peak Season, a period of demand exceeding market capacity. The main drivers for this demand increase are year-end festivities and the Black Friday period.
