Brazilian imports of cars grow 43% from a year ago

With significant growth, Brazilian imports of passenger cars reached the mark of $2.2 billion in the first half of 2023. This figure represents an increase of $677 million compared to the same period the previous year.

Following this record result, the automotive sector has become the product with the highest absolute growth this year.

In percentage terms, there has been a 43% growth in vehicle imports, mainly driven by countries such as Argentina, China, and Mexico, which together account for nearly 70% of imports to Brazil.

Argentina leads the list with 44.9%, followed by China and Mexico, both at 11.2%. Compared to the same period last year, all three countries saw increases, with notable jumps for the Chinese and Mexicans, who went from $42.9 million and $74 million, respectively, to $251 million each.
