Container terminals in Santos and Pará experience drop in February

February was a slow-movement month in the port terminals managed by Santos Brasil. The container throughput on the company’s quays was 24.1% lower than in February 2022. The storage of containers dropped by 26.5%, and the volume of general cargo handled went down by 41.9%.
In comparison with the same period last year, only Tecon Imbituba, in Santa Catarina, recorded a 57.5% increase in the volume of containers that passed through there.
The volume of general cargo, however, had a negative variation of 37% YoY, according to data released by the company on Friday (3). Santos Brasil’s fourth quarter results conference call is scheduled for March 22nd.
At Tecon Santos, the figures point to a 26% drop from February 2022, considering full and empty containers alike. The container terminal managed by Santos Brasil in the port of Santos is the largest in Latin America.
In Barcarena, in Pará, Tecon Vila do Conde registered a drop of 24.9% in February 2023 compared to the previous year’s result.
