Usinas da região Centro-Sul ampliam período de processamento de cana

De acordo com o grupo brasileiro de cana-de-açúcar Unica, as usinas da região centro-sul ampliaram o processamento de cana devido ao advento de fortes chuvas. O órgão acreditava que 79 usinas deveriam fechar as operações para a temporada, mas apenas 31 delas haviam feito isso. As usinas de cana produziram 880,000 toneladas de açúcar na primeira quinzena de novembro, com queda de 29,88% em relação ao mesmo período do ano anterior e a moagem de cana atingiu 21,29 milhões de toneladas no mesmo período, queda de 9,18% em relação ao mesmo período do ano anterior. A produção de etanol foi de 1,28 bilhão de litros no mesmo período, um aumento de 15,37% em relação ao ano anterior. Do total, 56,83 milhões de toneladas foram alocados para exportação.

Rains force Brazilian mills to extend cane processing

SAO PAULO, Nov 27 (Reuters) – Mills in the area have extended cane processing operations for the current crop due to widespread rains over most of Brazil’s center-south region, a major cane industry group said on Tuesday.
Unica had projected two weeks ago that 79 center-south mills would finish operations for the season during the first half of November, but it said on Tuesday that only 31 of them had done so.
Mills will be able to sell or stock less sugar and ethanol than previously expected, pausing production over time. But costs could rise as they delay the release of seasonal workers and extend contracts with third parties in transportation and harvesting operations.
Mills produced 880,000 tonnes of sugar in the first half of November, compared with 958,000 tonnes in the previous two-week period. Cane crushing was at 21.29 million tonnes versus 24.85 million tonnes in the second half of the previous month, Unica said. (See tables below)
Ethanol output was 1.08 billion liters compared with 1.4 billion liters in the previous two-week period.
Mills changed their production mix a bit in favor of sugar, according to the report, a rare move in a season marked by a strong focus on ethanol. Mills allocated 34.03 percent of cane to sugar production early in November versus 30.18 percent in late October.
