VLI signed, on the afternoon of Tuesday (22), the Sustainability Pact of the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor). The event, held by the company during the Intermodal trade fair in São Paulo, was attended by VLI’s CEO, Fábio Marchiori; the company’s Executive Director of People, Services, and Sustainability, Rute Melo Araújo; the Ministry’s Executive Secretary, Mariana Pescatori, who is serving as interim minister; as well as other authorities. The pact aims to encourage sustainable practices, promote transparency, and strengthen social inclusion—both by the private sector and public institutions—in ports, airports, and waterways.
VLI’s commitment aligns with the company’s ESG journey, which aspires to be a sustainability benchmark in its sector. VLI has had an ESG agenda in place since 2021, including public commitments, and it strongly incorporates sustainability into its corporate culture and practices across environmental, social, and governance pillars.
“VLI’s ESG journey is intentionally pursued through targets and indicators that apply to the company’s leadership. Joining the Ministry of Ports and Airports’ Sustainability Pact is an example of how we believe in the power of connections to transform logistics and contribute to a sustainable Brazil,” explains Rute Melo Araújo, Executive Director of People, Services, and Sustainability at VLI.
Public Recognition
Later this year, MPor will grant a public recognition seal to companies participating in the initiative, with different levels reflecting the degree of engagement. The gold seal, for example, will be awarded to companies that present at least 10 actions across the three policy pillars (environmental, social, and governance), in addition to setting self-defined targets in the social and ecological areas and adhering to the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program. Furthermore, companies committed to sound environmental practices will have their projects prioritized within the Ministry of Infrastructure, enabling faster processing, according to the Ministry’s Sustainability Program Director, Larissa Amorim.
