Week 202522

VLI has achieved a historic milestone by recording its highest-ever cargo movement over 12 months along the Northern Corridor, boosting the flow of Brazilian exports and solidifying its strategic role in the logistics of agribusiness, mining, pulp, and fuels. Between May 2024 and April 2025, the company transported 14.55 billion TKUs in the corridor, surpassing the previous record of 14.47 billion TKUs set between January and December 2023

The result highlights the growing importance of VLI’s Northern Corridor in Brazil’s export landscape, especially for the outflow of goods from the Matopiba region (Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí, and Bahia), as well as from states like Pará, Mato Grosso, and Goiás to the Port Complex of São Luís (MA). The corridor comprises the North-South Railway and the Carajás Railway, where the company operates under right-of-way agreements. Over the past five years, approximately BRL 1.5 billion has been invested in the corridor to ensure high levels of safety and operational efficiency, as well as to expand cargo capacity — including the acquisition of 168 railcars and three locomotives, which have been in operation since last year.

“The Northern Corridor has been consolidating each year as one of the main routes for exporting Brazilian goods, especially grains shipped from the São Luís Port Terminal to the international market. This achievement reflects our passion for transforming Brazilian logistics while ensuring operational stability, which is crucial for clients to plan and grow their businesses competitively on the global stage,” said Ederson Almeida, Director of Operations for the Northern Corridor.

Soybean Crop Records – 2024/2025 Harvest

In addition to the historic annual volume, VLI has also reported strong performance in soybean shipments for the 2024/2025 harvest, which began in February. In March, the company set a monthly record, moving 1.284 million MTKUs of soybeans. The operation was carried out at the São Luís Port Terminal (TPSL) in Maranhão, the central hub for export-import activities in the corridor.

According to Conab (National Supply Company) estimates, this harvest season is expected to set a national record, reaching 166 million tons, which is 12.4% higher than the previous season. Throughout the second half of the year, shipments from Minas Gerais, Goiás, Tocantins, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Bahia, and Pará will be transported via the Eastern and Southeastern Corridors (Ferrovia Centro Atlântica – FCA) and the Northern Corridor (Ferrovia Norte-Sul – FNS).

“The soybean harvest is fundamental to Brazil’s economic development. The integration of ports, railways, and terminals ensures efficiency and reliability for our clients, allowing successful exports to destinations across Asia, Europe, and the United States,” added Almeida.
